Location

Camp Mokulē‘ia is a historic oceanfront retreat center on the remote North Shore of O‘ahu. Far from Honolulu, the camp offers a peaceful, secluded setting ideal for rest, reflection, and creative work. Because of its distance from major towns, guests who plan to explore the North Shore beyond the camp will need access to a car.

Founded in 1947 by the Episcopal Church of Hawai‘i, Camp Mokulē‘ia has been a sacred gathering place for more than 75 years. Once part of the McInerny family estate, the camp has evolved from a small conference site into a beloved retreat center serving islanders and visitors from around the world.

Lots of information about Camp Mokulē‘ia is available on the Camp's website.

How to Get There

Camp Mokulē‘ia comprises 40 acres on the North Shore of O‘ahu. One of the major islands in the Hawaiian archipelago, O‘ahu is home to Honolulu and the state’s main airport, but the North Shore—where the camp sits—is quiet, rural, and far removed from the city.

The camp is accessible by car from Honolulu and the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, with the drive taking about one hour depending on traffic. The most convenient option is to rent a car, especially if you plan to explore the North Shore during your stay. Uber and Lyft are also available for direct transportation from town, but booking a rideshare may be harder than usual in this remote area.

Address: 68-729 Farrington Hwy, Waialua, HI 96791

Room Options

Camp Mokulē‘ia offers simple, comfortable lodging designed to support a focused, creative retreat. Rooms vary in layout—a few with queen beds, most with twins, and a limited number with private bathrooms. All are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Writers who register early have the best chance of securing one of our coveted ocean-view rooms, which include a writing desk positioned directly in front of the water. These inspiring spaces tend to fill quickly each year. But there are creative corners scattered across the 40-acre property.

If you prefer upgraded accommodations, please explore nearby rentals provided by Airbnb, VRBO, or Mokulē'ia Beach Houses at Owens Retreat. At Owens we have reserved one cottage for the week (one bedroom with queen bed; one bedroom with 3 twins, plus kitchen, living room, and lanai)—contact Connie for rates.

However, we have our hands full, so we cannot be personal travel agents. Please avail yourselves of a good guidebook or check out the site of the O‘ahu Visitors Bureau

Please write Connie (constancehaleretreats@gmail.com) for information or to get on our mailing list.

As we say in Hawai‘i, a hui hou!  (See you soon!)
